Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a clamor for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and fill the hearts of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
